To begin, Evan Thomas (editor of Newsweek) discusses how Pres. Reagan approached foreign policy speeches from an America-first point of view. "Reagan was all about America, and he talked about it," he says.
But, with our current president, Thomas says, "We're above that now." Thomas draws the comparison with Pres. Obama, who is more cosmopolitan in his perspective, less parochial, less provincial.
Thomas says that "In a way, Obama is standing above the country, above...above the world. He's sort of God. He's gonna bring all different sides together."
While I don't think that Thomas is making a direct equation between Pres. Obama and God, his statement is emblematic is an exaltation that liberals (in general) have of Pres. Obama.
